Today we are going to meet with Kayoko and Albert, my friends from Winfield. They happened to be visiting Kay's mom during the same time we are in the area. It's like having our regular weekly coffee shop meeting, only a continent away.
Lynda and I got on a train which would take us to Yokosuka, where we would meet up with K & A and then take a ferry to Sarushima Island. Are you all ready for a history lesson? Sarushima had fortifications in WWII. The end. My history lessons aren't usually this painless (just ask my students), but today is your lucky day!
The train was pretty full on the way, so when some senior citizens got on and couldn't find a seat, we offered them ours. Have to make a good impression in case we want to come back some day. One of the ladies slipped us some chocolate--sometimes good deeds do go unpunished!
After meeting K & A at Mikasa Park, we boarded the ferry and docked on the island 10 minutes later.

Some really useful information!
All the cardio exercise from walking up steep hills and even steeper stairs made us hungry. Oh come on, you knew that food pics are inevitable!
Late lunch at a nearby shopping mall:
It was time to say good-bye, but not for long, because K & A are going to meet me tomorrow for the robot show. The train ride back gave us plenty of time to think about our next endeavor: more food! Sorry, but food is a big deal with us and half of the fun of coming here. The other half is dessert. Just kidding!
Since we love izakayas and their many small-dish food choices, we thought we couldn't go wrong with a pub named "Mr. Happy". We were promptly greeted and escorted to counter seats, then presented with the menu. Only, it was hand-written in Japanese and even the Google Translate app failed. Which it does most of the time, but it really did this time. One of the waiters spoke a few words of English and with Lynda's Japanese knowledge, we got it figured out.
Yes, Mr. Happy made us happy!
